Data Breach

Australia-based bank falls victim to a data breach.

On January 14, a security researcher revealed on Twitter that Australia-based P&N Bank was a victim of a data breach. The exposed information contains names, addresses, emails, phone numbers, customer numbers, ages, account numbers, and balance information.

What happened.

The attack was discovered on December 12, 2019, when an unauthorized hacker accessed the third-party company that P&N Bank uses for hosting services. As soon as the attack was discovered, the bank shut down the source to prevent it from spreading. Fortunately, sensitive data such as passwords, driver’s license numbers, passport numbers, Social Security numbers, tax file numbers, credit card numbers, and dates of birth were not affected in the breach. The bank has been working with West Australian Police Force (WAPOL), the compromised hosting provider, security experts, and regulators to investigae the breach. The exact number of affected individuals remains unknown.
