Ubisoft's Assassin’s Creed Odyssey launch crippled by DDoS attack

On October 4, 2018, Ubisoft, a popular video game publisher, launched the much-awaited Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. However, the release got off to a bad start when Ubisoft's website was disrupted by distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks.

Aftermath of the attack

The DDoS attacks caused disruptions to all of Ubisoft's online games and prevented users from buying the new Assassin's Creed game. Ubisoft confirmed that  DDoS attacks have been resolved, but some users continued to experience connectivity issues. In a forum post, the company recognized that these sort of attacks are a regular occurrence for online service providers.

Ubisoft's games were not the only ones impacted by this string of DDoS attacks. Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIV was also affected during the same time, though it's unclear whether it was related to the attack on Ubisoft.
