Ransomware

Radio network Entercom's systems affected by ransomware.

On September 13, 2019, Pennsylvania-based broadcasting company, Entercom Communications Corporation, revealed that a ransomware attack crippled its services. The attackers demanded a ransom of $500,000 in exchange for decryption keys.

The incident.

Initially, one of the devices in the network was infected, and it later infected other systems like email, music scheduling, production, billing, and shared network drives. Users were instructed to use their personal email accounts for communication until the email services were restored. Internet connectivity and specific printers were also affected, while computers not connected to Active Directory were not. Employees were instructed not to connect the computers to a wired network. Entercom has not officially released a statement regarding the incident. “We are experiencing a disruption of some IT systems, including email," Entercom said in a statement to Radio NK. "We apologize for any inconvenience and are working around the clock to resolve this issue.” According to some sources, Entercom is not planning to give in to the ransom demands of the hackers.
