In June 2019, Quantum Vision Centers revealed that its systems containing Protected Health Information (PHI) of patients were infected with ransomware. The compromised files included information such as names, dates of birth, addresses, health insurance information, and Social Security numbers.

The incident

On April 18, 2019, Quantum Vision Centers noticed that unauthorized hackers accessed its network and injected malware, which encrypted some of its sensitive files. As soon as the attack occurred, the eyecare center hired a cybersecurity firm to assist with the breach. The firm was unable to determine if the hackers were able to steal the personal data or if it was only encrypted.

Quantum Vision Centers is in the process of recovering data from backups. It has notified all the affected patients regarding the breach and is also offering free credit monitoring services to these patients for one year. Impacted individuals have also been advised to monitor their bank account statements closely for any suspicious activity.
