Texas courts victim of ransomware attack

In May 2020, the Office of Court Administration (OCA) of Texas confirmed that there was a security incident in the network that was identified to be a ransomware attack. The attack was believed to have happened during the night of May 8 and was detected early in the morning.

As soon as the attack was discovered, the internal IT security team disabled the website and servers to prevent malware from infecting the entire network. The OCA has notified law enforcement and has enlisted the assistance of the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) to investigate the breach.

There has been no evidence so far that any sensitive information was compromised in the breach. Fortunately, individual trial court networks across the state were unaffected by the attack. Employees have undergone training for cybersecurity awareness.
