On February 27, 2019, Detroit-based Wolverine Solutions Group (WSG) revealed in a statement that its network was affected by ransomware. Customers of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Health Alliance Plan, McLaren Health Care, Three Rivers Health, and North Ottawa Community Health System were impacted. Compromised information included names, addresses, dates of birth, social security numbers, phone numbers, insurance contract information, and medical information.

What happened?

On September 23, 2018, ransomware infected their systems, resulting in the encryption of files containing protected health information. WSG has notified all affected individuals about the breach and has offered one year of complimentary credit monitoring services to victims. WSG has taken steps to improve security, including migrating to a different computer system with added protections and providing training on new security measures to its workforce.
