ManageEngine Announces NetFlow Plug-in For OpManager

Company’s flagship network management solution adds in-depth traffic analysis and network forensics to growing inventory of capabilities

Austin, Texas, December, 18, 2008

ManageEngine, makers of a globally renowned suite of cost effective network, systems & security management software solutions, today announced availability of the OpManager NetFlow Monitor, a plug-in module for IT administrators using OpManager Professional or Premium Edition. The new plug-in integrates into OpManager detailed information from NetFlow – and six other popular flow monitoring tools –  regarding traffic-consuming applications, conversations, traffic sources, destinations and overall quality-of-service.

ManageEngine OpManager collects fault and performance management data across servers, desktops and applications and displays that information in a business-centric management view, which illustrates the way business services are impacted by any disruption in the infrastructure. With the new NetFlow Monitor plug-in, OpManager adds an even greater level of performance detail to that view, combining traditional protocol-based network device monitoring with flow-based monitoring of network traffic.

"We have been using OpManager for several years now to monitor hundreds of devices and thousands of ports," said Scott Heckman a senior network engineer at one of Maine's largest healthcare providers. "The application has allowed us to be proactive to problems before end users notice, along with being a troubleshooting tool to bring faster resolution to issues when they arise. I installed the new NetFlow plug-in before its release and the application has performed flawlessly. I have even had a chance to use the data to troubleshoot an issue with a particular VPN timeout issue. I would highly recommend the OpManager product and the new NetFlow plug-in to assist in managing networks; from the small network with several devices to the enterprise level with hundreds."

"ManageEngine has been a front-runner in leveraging the power of NetFlow to understand network behavior,” said Girish Mathrubootham, vice president of ManageEngine. “The NetFlow plug-in for OpManager combines flow-based network monitoring with SNMP, ICMP, WMI & CLI-based device management to provide a robust network management platform. The combination is sure to be a compelling solution for any network administrator."

Bandwidth monitoring solutions have long been known to make use of network traffic flows for in-depth bandwidth visibility. The inherent information contained in traffic flows is also being leveraged by network management solutions looking to provide a comprehensive troubleshooting and network planning solution. The analysis of traffic flows enables near real-time monitoring of network traffic trends to facilitate quicker problem detection, troubleshooting and resolution. The storehouse of flows data finds use in long-term traffic trending, user profiling and network capacity planning.

OpManager NetFlow Monitor provides:

  • Support for NetFlow as well as sFlow®, cflowd®, J-Flow®, IPFIX®, NetStream® and Cisco NBAR®
  • Quick network fault detection, diagnosis and resolution
  • In-depth visibility on bandwidth composition and traffic trends
  • User monitoring and profiling
  • Effective capacity planning with historical traffic trend reports
