Invalid Computer Name

Problem

When you want to take remote control of a computer, you can send a remote-control confirmation message for the approval of the user, before taking remote control. However, you can also take remote control without sending the confirmation message. To do this, you are required to add specific computers to an exclusion list.

You are trying to add a list of computers from which you do not want to get consent, before taking remote control. The error message you see is, ' The computer '<name of computer>' is invalid.'.

Cause

You will see this error message because of one of the following reasons. You have:

  • Not added the computer to the Scope of Management (SoM)
  • Added the computer to the SoM, but you haven't installed the agent
  • Misspelt the name of the computer

Note: If the name of even one computer is invalid, all the computers that you have selected will not be added to the list.

Resolution

You are required to do the following:

  • Add the computer to the SoM
  • Install the agent in the computer
  • Check the spelling of the name of the computer and enter the correct spelling

Applies to: Agent Installation, Distribution Server Installation, Remote Desktop Sharing, Invalid Computer

Keywords: Agent Installation Failure, Distribution Server Installation Failure, Remote Control Failure, Exclusion List Issues
