Cannot Add an IP Scope for a Remote Office

Problem

You cannot add an Internet Protocol (IP) Scope for a remote office.

Cause

You cannot add an IP scope because you have entered one of the following:

  • Subnet IP address that is not part of the reserved list of IP addresses for a Local Area Network (LAN)
  • IP address that is not relevant for the subnet mask that you have selected

Resolution

You are required to identify the cause for your problem and follow the relevant resolution.

Entering IP addresses from the list of LAN IP address

Ensure that you enter an IP address that is in the reserved list of LAN IPv4 addresses. The subnet masks are categorized into class A, B and C. The LAN IPv4 addresses for each subnet mask include the following:

  • IP address range for Class A: 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
  • IP address range for Class B: 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
  • IP address range for Class C: 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255

Note: If you want to enter an IP address that is not part of the list mentioned above, select the IP Address Range option when adding an IP Scope for a remote office.

Selecting the right subnet mask

Ensure that you select the right subnet mask, from the Subnet Mask list, for the IP address that you have entered. Refer to the section above for information about the IP address range you can use for each subnet mask.

Note: For the class B subnet mask, you can use IP address ranges relevant for both class A and B. However, this does not apply for class A subnet masks; you can only enter an IP address that is relevant for class A.
